LayeredYAMLConfig provides a simple config file that supports multiple layers. Values in the right or uppermost layers override values in lower layers. This makes it easy to share configuration without duplication while still allowing what needs to be different to vary. For example: program.default.conf program.server_foo.conf program.site_bar.conf program.conf Optionally, leaf nodes can be evaluated using as ERB templates, feeding the configuration into itself.

Wilbur is primarly a wrapper around OpenWRT Buildroot. Building a custom OpenWRT image with a custom kernel is not so difficult if done once, but as long as you need to integrate it into your infrastructure things can start to scatter. Wilbur allows resources like kernel configurations, patches, custom config files to be sticked together and managed as a single, configurable and cloneable entity. Also, Wilbur provides a layer of abstraction over Vagrant and enables repeatable, predictable builds and repeatable, predictable deployments via network boot if your device support it.
StratoEnv populates ENV from one or more AWS SSM Parameter Store paths. Multiple paths form layers, with later paths overriding earlier ones, so you can split common config from node-specific or environment-specific overrides. No Rails dependency; works in Rails, Sinatra, Lambda, scripts, or any Ruby boot process.
