fast_xs provides C extensions for escaping text. The original String#fast_xs method is based on the xchar code by Sam Ruby: * http://intertwingly.net/stories/2005/09/28/xchar.rb * http://intertwingly.net/blog/2005/09/28/XML-Cleansing _why also packages an older version with Hpricot (patches submitted). The version here should be compatible with the latest version of Hpricot code. Ruby on Rails will automatically use String#fast_xs from either Hpricot or this gem version with the bundled Builder package. String#fast_xs is an almost exact translation of Sam Ruby's original implementation (String#to_xs), but it does escape """ (which is an optional, but all parsers are able ot handle it. XML::Builder as packaged in Rails 2.0 will be automatically use String#fast_xs instead of String#to_xs available.
Boxwerk is a tool for creating modular Ruby and Rails applications. It organizes code into packages with clear boundaries and explicit dependencies, enforcing them at runtime using Ruby::Box constant isolation. It reads standard Packwerk package.yml files (without requiring Packwerk), providing per-package gem isolation, Zeitwerk-based autoloading, monkey patch isolation between packages, and a CLI for running, testing, and inspecting your modular application.

Build and deploy tools for Cocoa apps using Sparkle for distributions and upgrades; it's like Hoe but for Cocoa apps. The main feature is a powerful rake task "rake appcast" which builds a release of your application, creates a DMG package, generates a Sparkle XML file, and posts the package and XML file to your remote host via rsync. All rake tasks: rake build # Build Xcode Release rake dmg[automount] # Create the dmg file for appcasting (`rake dmg`, or `rake dmg[automount]` to automatically mount the dmg) rake feed # Create/update the appcast file rake upload # Upload the appcast file to the host rake version:bump:major # Bump the gemspec by a major version. rake version:bump:minor # Bump the gemspec by a minor version. rake version:bump:patch # Bump the gemspec by a patch version. rake version:current # Display the current version
minitest/unit is a small and fast replacement for ruby's huge and slow test/unit. This is meant to be clean and easy to use both as a regular test writer and for language implementors that need a minimal set of methods to bootstrap a working unit test suite. mini/spec is a functionally complete spec engine. mini/mock, by Steven Baker, is a beautifully tiny mock object framework. (This package was called miniunit once upon a time) -- (this gem as maintained by Matt Lyon contains patches and extensions to minitest/spec that will apparently never make it upstream. Go Open Source!)
