CanDo is a small gem to implement a simple user access system based on users, roles & capabilites, where: each user can have 0, 1 or many roles each role can have 0, 1 or many capabilites Users have capabilities by getting roles assigned (role == collection of capabilities). Within the code, the can helper method can be used to test whether a user has a certain capability or not (see below for a working code example).
A simple redirector for use when you just want to safely redirect stdio. Simply encapsulates a few different safety mechanisms when redirecting stdio, with the primary goal of making it easier to write apps that run under rubyw.exe, where ruby loads with stdio closed. Whilst the primary intention for use is under win32, and was actually developed as an external helper for specifically win32-service usage, this gem may be useful to some other folks on other platforms. It is not win32 specific.
There is great benefit in adopting a standard library of exceptions. Projects and libraries can all assume the same set of exception classes will be raised and caught using the built in language rescue keyword which filters on class. It becomes especially powerful for building API's, where specific exception classes can be made to return specific HTTP status codes. This libary also provides helper bang-methods eg. unauthorised! for raising these standard kinds of errors
